Dear Parents and Guardians,
We understand that a school lockdown can be upsetting for students and families, even when everyone is safe. Your support at home can help your child feel calm and secure. The school was put on hold as a safety precaution for an event that occurred in Grape Creek. A hold simply means all students stay in the building and school goes on as normal within the safety and security of the building. Unfortunately, a teacher accidentally pushed the lockdown button when the hold alert went off, sending the school into an accidental lockdown. While we know that can cause fear for some, it should reassure both you and your child(ren) that we have a system where all teachers can send an alert to lockdown if they see an emergency, they do not have to wait for an Administrator.
Helpful ways to talk with your child:
· Listen and allow your child to share their feelings at their own pace.
· Reassure them that the lockdown was a precaution and that adults at school work to keep students safe.
· Answer questions honestly, but avoid sharing unnecessary details.
· Maintain regular routines, as consistency helps children feel secure.
· Watch for changes in behavior, such as trouble sleeping or increased worry, and reach out if concerns continue.
If you have questions or need additional support, please contact Mrs. Colwell, the school counselor.
Thank you for your partnership and support.
Sincerely,
Water Valley Admin team
Water Valley ISD will be testing our Crisis System with our speaker system starting at 4 PM today, 2/25/2026. Please disregard any alerts you may hear around the school area at that time!
We will notify you when testing is complete.
We know it’s early, but it’s never too soon to start planning for Friday Night Lights. Check out the matchups and start clearing your calendars—the Wildcats are coming!🐾🏈
