The Water Valley Ladycats wrapped up their track and field season with a remarkable showing at the UIL 1A State Championships, capturing a state title, setting new records, and earning a podium finish in the long jump.

The highlight of the meet came in the 4x200 meter relay, where Kaige Lange(Senior), Jayden Gomez (Senior), Addy Luna (Junior), and Janaye Coston (Sophomore) delivered a blazing time of 1:46.08 to claim the 1A State Championship. Their performance shattered both the 1A state record and the Water Valley school record, previously set in 2001 by Melissa Waren, Emily Bell, Erin Bell, and Autumn Levens.

This powerful relay run not only placed the Ladycats at the top of the podium but also etched their names into both school and state history books—a fitting conclusion to a season marked by dedication and teamwork.

In field events, sophomore, Janaye Coston earned state runner-up honors in the 1A Long Jump, with an impressive mark of 16 feet, 8¼ inches. Her silver medal performance capped off a strong meet and highlighted her all-around talent.

While the 4x100 meter relay did not go as planned, the team’s commitment and effort throughout the season have not gone unnoticed. The entire Ladycats squad has represented Water Valley with pride, resilience, and excellence.

As the season comes to a close, these athletes have left a legacy of hard work, speed, and determination—qualities that continue to define Water Valley track and field.
