Mr. Christopher Voss

Biography:

Christopher Voss was born and raised in Midland, TX. Voss earned a B.A. degree at Angelo State University in art with a teaching certification in 1999. Voss served as an art instructor and generalist educator for the San Angelo ISD from 2000 through 2007. While teaching, Voss continued to make paintings from a small apartment make-shift art studio. These early works were exhibited in 2003 during his first solo exhibition, “Visions of the Soul” at Texas A&M University. The show included 26 paintings. Feeling the urge to further his artistic practice, Voss applied and was accepted into the Texas Tech University Master of Fine Arts program in 2007 where he would further study and teach studio courses for the department. While teaching as an Art Instructor of Record at Texas Tech University, he was involved in many endeavors including organizing and exhibiting his art in numerous group exhibitions for the School of Art. As the MFA Student Coordinator in 2009, he organized two group exhibitions: “Contemporary Dialog in Visual Art” at Eastern New Mexico University and “.emergence” at Angelo State University. Voss has both exhibited and published many of his paintings through his representation with the Agora Gallery in New York City including an exhibition titled, “Four Degrees of Abstraction.” Voss was also voted as one of the top 40 emerging artists at the 2009 Rising Eyes of Texas competition held in Rockport, Texas. Voss was also voted a finalist at the 2010 “Art Kudos”, an International Competition sponsored by Gage Academy of Art in Seattle Washington. His M.F.A. thesis exhibition “Proximity” held at the Studio Gallery of Texas Tech University consisted of 35 drawings, sculptures, and paintings which all received strong reviews. His thesis publication, “Raging Against the Divisive Machine”, on view at the Texas Tech University School of Art Library, is a comprehensive look at his works and the content of his visual dialog. 

Recently Voss has been published in multiple UK art magazines, group exhibition and international art exhibitions and recently featured his art at the W83 Gallery in New York City, NY. His Exhibition, "Home: Seen. Unseen", recieved great reviews. 

Voss is currently an Adjunct Professor of Art at Angelo State University and an Art Instructor at Water Valley High School teaching foundational courses, advanced art studio courses and a thesis course. Voss also conducts art studio sessions while working on his art works at his own private studio, Voss Art Studio.
